Chamber Services in 2010, October 2008
Thank you to everybody who responded to our survey on what kind of Chamber services you would like to see us offering in 2010. Below is a summary of survey results: Section 1 – In the context of services currently offered by the Chamber Question 1: Which current Chamber services will you use during the 2010 Winter Games? The top three choices selected were: 1. Information Updates through website and email broadcasts 2. Information updates at Chamber events 3. Whistler Spirit Program.
Question 2: Which current Chamber services will you use during the Paralympics (March 12-21, 2010)? The top 3 choices selected were identical responses to Question 1.
Question 3: In February 2010, provided you can reach the Chamber staff by phone or email, how important will it be for you to meet with them at the Chamber office?
80 % said it wasn’t important.

Question 2: What other kind of services and tools would you like the Chamber to offer PRIOR to the 2010 Winter Games (December 1, 2009 – February 11, 2010)? The following table highlights member requests and the Chamber’s initiatives: | Member Requests: | Where are we at? | | Transportation update, including updates for delivery schedules. | Transportation issues during Games time are negotiated between VANOC and the RMOW. A transportation update to the Whistler community can be expected by March 2009.The Chamber is a member of the 2010 Transportation Advisory Group and represents its members in that forum. For more information, go to 2010 Transportation | | Area access: what are the restricted areas? Where will ID requirements for business owners and staff apply? | This will fall out of the security plan (release date tba). At this point we expect security checks in the Olympic venues and Celebration Plaza, but not in the Whistler Village. | | Up-to-date information on housing situation, including a list of accommodation options for staff. | With the Phoenix Corporation wrapped up, the Chamber is focusing its attention on its 2009 priorities, including its advocacy role, in which it will continue to lobby for housing solutions on behalf of its membership. Question 3: What other kind of services and tools would you like the Chamber to offer DURING the 2010 Winter Games:
The following table highlights member requests and the Chamber’s initiatives: | Member Requests: | Where are we at? | | One-stop access to address unforeseen situations that impact business operations. | The Chamber Board is in the process of finalizing the Chamber’s role during the 2010 Winter Games. Visit the Chamber’s website regularly. Information will be posted as it becomes available. Be sure to have access to the Chamber’s weekly broadcasts as they contain 2010 updates and 2010 business events. The Chamber will also develop a 2010 Mediation Program. | | Operational updates e.g. traffic, parking. | Go to 2010 Transportation. Information will be posted as it becomes available. | | Occupancy reports. | Tourism Whistler will continue issuing occupancy reports. | | Maps with businesses shops, etc... in Olympic guide format. | There will be Games Time maps. Tourism Whistler will lead this initiative. Details are not yet available. | | Hot spots (crowds) in the village. Updates to events that might affect business or traffic flows. | Crowds can be expected around the Celebration Plaza and live sites. More information, including an events schedule, will be posted as it becomes available. | | Surplus event ticket pooling. | Ticketing Information, including FAQ, can be found here. Information on ticket resale will be provided as it becomes available. | | The Chamber should help businesses that might not be as busy as they usually are. | If you anticipate that your products and services will not be in demand during the 2010 Winter Games, the Chamber offers the following tools:- Commercial Space Matching Program- Enhanced job board and job matching program for your employees to work elsewhere for the duration of the Games |
Question 4: What other kind of services and tools would you like the Chamber to offer AFTER the 2010 Winter Games and PRIOR to the Paralympics? The following table highlights member requests and the Chamber’s initiatives: | Member Requests: | Where are we at? | | Include POST OLYMPICS info in the Readiness Guide. | Learnings from the 2010 Olympic Games will be shared as soon as possible so that challenges during the Paralympics can be avoided and opportunities can be leveraged. | | Post Olympic Statistics. | Post Olympic Statistics will be circulated as soon as they are available. | | Prepare businesses for post 2010 business climate. | The Whistler Chamber is in the process of developing a program. |
