Harmonized Sales Tax (HST) |

At its meeting on June 14, 2011, the Board of Directors of the Whistler Chamber of Commerce (WCC) endorsed HST as the best tax system for B.C.
- HST is more administratively efficient than the previous GST+PST system,
- HST allows businesses to reduce operating and administrative costs and to consider passing those savings onto consumers or reinvesting them into human or capital resources, and
- HST improves productivity and competitiveness and therefore allows businesses to contribute more robustly to the local and provincial economies.
While recognizing the above benefits, the Board of Directors also acknowledged that certain sectors, including the tourism sector, face unique challenges because of the tax. As a result, WCC will continue to lobby the government through the BC Chamber of Commerce for tools, such as rebates, to mitigate those challenges.
