A Communication Toolkit to Resolve Conflict

Participants in this workshop will gain the ability to reach collaborative resolutions by creating an empowered, ‘no blame’ culture. This communication toolkit will cover:
- Communication Skills for Service Professionals: Sharpen your everyday communication skills through the art of listening, questioning techniques, body language and relationship building techniques. Learn to provide effective feedback and set goals through empowerment and collaboration.
- Dynamics of Multicultural Communication: Learn the 10 best tips to linguistic diversity and gain an understanding of how other cultures communicate verbally and non-verbally. This workshop will highlight adapting to clients and increase effectiveness in cross-cultural communication.
- The Culture of Conflict: Self manage and keep situations under control with diffusing strategies by gaining knowledge to shift a confrontation to a collaborative discussion.
Facilitator: Karmen Cozens
Karmen Cozens is a certified Civil Mediator working in BC Small Claims Court and in her private practice, Balance Mediation. She has a Bachelor of Justice Studies from Royal Roads University, holds an Associate Degree in Arts and has specialized Conflict Resolution Program training from the Justice Institute of British Columbia. Previously, she worked for twelve years in a post-secondary educational setting. Karmen has been an active community volunteer in programs such as Search and Rescue, Language Exchange Programs, and Land Mine Education Awareness.
