BUSINESS PERSON OF THE YEAR

The Whistler Chamber of Commerce invites the public to submit nominations for the Business Person of the Year-award.

The Business Person of the Year is a Whistler Chamber member who has owned or managed a business in Whistler successfully for at least five years.  They are profitable in their business ventures and always seek to lead through vision, service excellence and innovation.  They actively contribute to the business community.

Last year, the committee identified a transparent selection process with clear selection criteria. The committee encourages nominators to provide an in-depth overview of the nominee.

Deadline for nominations: November 30th, 2007.

Criteria for nomination and selection:

1. Member of the Chamber of Commerce
• For minimum of 1 year;
• Member in good standing with current business license;
• Supports the initiatives of the Chamber.
  
2. Minimum of five years conducting business in Whistler
• Active participant in a business;
• In a decision making position, fully responsible for the success of their business;
• Business is viable, sustainable and has longevity.
  
3. Has proven track record as a successful business leader
• Inspires through vision and leadership;
• Has developed sound strategies that contribute to their business success;
• Demonstrates practices that are innovative and outside traditional thinking;
• Their business is financially successful;
• Leads by example
  
4. Contributes to the success of the business Community
• Actively participates on committees, task forces and groups that benefit the business community
• Involved in advocacy on behalf of Whistler businesses;
• Is responsible for improving the business climate;
  
5. Contributes to the success of the Community at Large
• Actively participates on committees, task forces and groups that benefit the community at large;
  
6. Demonstrates active involvement and commitment to service excellence
• Has a solid reputation of service excellence;
• Rates very highly on customer service

Since 1988 the Whistler Chamber of Commerce facilitates the recognition of outstanding achievements of a local business person with the title “Business Person of the Year”.
Past winners are: David Demers, Scott Carrel, Doug Forseth, Bob Lorriman, Kathy Barnett, Sue and Bob Adams, David Kirk, Dave Davenport, Doug Perry, Ann Chiasson, John Grills, David Roberts, Joel Thibault, Mervyn Kennedy, Rick Clare, Dave Murray, Jan Holmberg, Gary Raymond and Lorne Borgal.

This year’s winner will be announced at the Chamber’s luncheon and AGM on December 12^th.  Also on the agenda, VANOC construction general managers will update the membership on the progress of the Whistler Nordic Venue, the Whistler Sliding Centre and Whistler Creekside.
