Transportation Update as of June 2008

Highway 99
Currently there are not any plans to close the Sea-to-Sky Highway during the 2010 Games. However, VANOC and its partners are working to reduce traffic on the roads by increasing public transit capacity, promoting bus service for Games spectators and by encouraging people to use alternate means of transportation during the Games.
VANOC does not plan to use the train or ferries to transport people between Vancouver and Whistler.

Parking in Whistler
Due to the significant operating space required at Games venues, most public parking will not be available. Some public parking spaces will be used to facilitate transportation and operational logistics. The day skier parking lots (Lots 1 to 5) will be completely unavailable prior to and during the Games. Parking at Whistler Creekside will start to be reduced as of November 15, 2009, becoming unavailable effective February 1, 2010. Parking at Nesters and Marketplace will not be used for Games-time operations. Getting groceries and other day-to-day needs are being considered in all operational planning. There will be some parking/access restrictions in certain areas in Whistler. VANOC and the RMOW are working to minimize the restricted areas as much as possible. Details become available in 2009.

Employee Transportation
The public bus service between Squamish/Pemberton and Whistler will be significantly improved for the Games time.

Deliveries
Transportation in Whistler will not be business as usual during the Games. Different areas of Whistler will be impacted in different ways. Businesses can expect that deliveries can be made during night time. VANOC and the RMOW are committed to providing businesses with the necessary information to plan their activities in advance. Additional information will be made available.
