Suggestions for Successfully Securing Employment in Whistler

  1. Follow-up with your application/resume/interview.  Call potential employers approximately 1 week after your initial contact unless they request otherwise. This lets the employer know how interested and enthusiastic you are about the position.

  2. Create a positive impression with everyone you come into contact with.  You never know who can or will influence the decision maker.

  3. Be courteous and respectful of an employer’s time.  If you are not going to show up to an interview or work because you have accepted employment elsewhere or have decided you are not interested in the position, call the employer and let them know.  This shows respect to an employer and won’t burn any bridges with them.

  4. Dress appropriately when dropping off a resume or going for an interview.  Whistler is a casual resort; ties and suits are not a typical day-to-day uniform however a presentable appearance is preferred while job searching.

  5. It’s more convenient to apply during a quiet time of day.   If you’re going to apply in person and notice the place is busy (ie. Dinner time at a restaurant), come back at a quieter time.

  6. Always apply with a resume.  Show that you care about your first impression and are willing to make the effort to secure employment. This also gives the employer an idea of your skills and abilities right away.

  7. It is best not to smoke or drink before visiting an employer or going for an interview.  Again, it’s all about the first impression you are giving to the employer.

  8. Last, but not least: Always be positive, enthusiastic and personable.  Most positions are in the customer service industry therefore, it is important to demonstrate your interpersonal skills.
