2020 Turkey Sidewalk Sales
October 8 – 18, 2020
Tourism Whistler and the Whistler Chamber, in partnership with the RMOW, would like to encourage all retail partners to participate in the upcoming Whistler Turkey Sidewalk Sales initiative, happening October 8-18.
Shopping for new winter gear over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend is a Whistler tradition, and with winter right around the corner, locals and visitors alike are dreaming of those perfect powder turns and are on the hunt for outerwear, hard goods, accessories, and more.
Whistler merchants are encouraged to keep the Turkey Sale tradition alive by participating in this initiative, which will add animation to the resort, will help drive visitation during the month of October, and will be promoted by Tourism Whistler via its Thanksgiving and Support Local marketing efforts. To learn more, please review the 2020 Whistler Turkey Sidewalk Sale Guidelines.
Take this opportunity to animate your businesses with sidewalk sales and displays outside your stores. Please note that the RMOW has given special permission for these events on the condition that all businesses comply with specific RMOW Public Safety Regulations. This is more important than ever during COVID-19.
A few things to consider to attract more business:
- Bring your A-game (this is not a flea market!)
- Use tents, tables, mannequins and creative displays to attract attention and create animation (note: pop up tents must not block a neighbouring store front, access or egress, or the village stroll fire lanes. Tents must be weighed down)
- Talk to your neighbours to see what they are doing – make your retail neighbourhood attractive to potential shoppers
