2019/20 Collective Perspective Survey Results
This fall we reached out to you to help us support the BC Chamber of Commerce Collective Perspective Survey, the largest annual economic snapshot of BC’s business climate. Thank you for your participation and attention to this survey, as the larger the participation in our community, the greater our local municipal results are.
We’re pleased to share with you, our local Whistler report for your review here. Key insights from a local standpoint include:
- Confidence in the BC economy has remained stagnant year over year, with even less confidence reported in the Canadian and Global economy
- Recruitment and retention of employees has become worse over the past year and is the biggest challenge. 82% of Members say that housing was the biggest factor.
- The cost of doing business, labour shortages, and climate change remain key challenges (and some opportunities) for BC businesses
How can you use this information? We encourage you to review the report and pull relevant information to your business. Incorporate this data into your strategic planning processes – where do the opportunities lie for your business?
Thank you again for your continued support as we look to further our community where local businesses continue to thrive and grow!
BC Family Day
Moving Family Day to the 3rd Monday would cause unnecessary compression in BC destination mountain resorts which could have a negative impact on the guest experience. Avoiding a holiday overlap, however, provides British Columbians – and out-of-province guests – with better quality Family Day and vacation experiences respectively.
IOC inclusion of LGBT community
As a business community, we encourage the IOC to recall its Olympic Charter when it says it will cooperate with competent organizations and authorities in the endeavor to place sport at the service of humanity, as Russia’s anti-gay stance threatens to overshadow the games.
Proposed Antenna Siting
The Whistler Chamber is convinced the new antenna system site proposed for 7196 Lorimer Road (that will sit well above the existing tree line) will be an eyesore in a resort that prides itself on natural vistas.
